Art and Love from Me to You

A Grateful Giveaway!

Note: This giveaway is now closed. I will be announcing the winners today.  I couldn’t bring myself to close the comments because that would delete them.  They are just too beautiful that I want to keep them right where they are.

I am so happy to have a bright new website that it’s time for a giveaway celebration!

Giveaway #1

The publisher of the gorgeous book, 365 Gratefuls, by Hailey and Andrew Bartholomew, sent me two copies to give away. I’m honored that some of my paintings are part of this book and thrilled to give these little beauties to two of you.  Everyone needs this book!

Giveaway #2

I decided to add to the celebration by including my newly updated Month of Thank Yous Gratitude Kits in the giveaway party. It makes sense that the book and gratitude pack should be paired together because it was Hailey’s gratitude project that inspired me to do one of my own.

I really like your new website. It is so colorful, easy to navigate, and extremely uplifting. Last year I had purchased one of your prayer flags, which is hung in my cubicle at work. Anytime I am feeling a bit down and out, I read each card aloud in my mind. Believe it or not, it helps me feel better. Thank you for being so encouraging through your work.

I feel blessed beyond measure for having such awesome family and friends.

Thank you for hosting this giveaway. Blessings to you

I am so so so so so thankful that it’s almost autumn! Summers in southwest Florida are pretty brutal- stormy, humid, and dark. I’m looking forward to throwing open the windows and doors and getting a breeze, and being able to go outside in *fresh* air again.

Hi Lori…new website is awesome! Love the new layout!!

I am grateful for times of transformation and change. Though they are scary and can be difficult, it allows me opportunities for greater faith, hope, and growth as long as through it all I stay true to my heart.

  • Marije August 21, 2013

    Hi Lori,
First let me say that I really LOVE your work! It’s happy, hopeful and true. Most of your art is actually a beautiful representation of what I am grateful for in life; the beauty and colors of the earth, the feeling of joy about little things and to be able to share what’s important to me with others.
    With love from Holland,
    Marije

  • mara schwartz August 21, 2013

I am so grateful to have spent a week with my son and husband. It had been 8 months since our son was home. love love love!

  • Sarah August 21, 2013

Your new website is lovely! Full of rainbow magic. I really like that you have a shop on there and it is easy to navigate (and very, very tempting). My only suggestion is to perhaps either slow down the sliding images very slightly or use minimal text on them (like with the ‘A Reflection of You’ panel) to be sure everyone is able to read them before they pass and absorb what they say. I know they can be stopped and reversed but I think a second or two slower would be good to have the most effect.

I treasure the prints that I have of yours, one at my desk at work and another at the top of the stairs at home, both I take notice of every day and they make me feel uplifted.

I’m grateful that I have 3 more work days left until vacation! I get to go home to visit my family and see my youngest brother get married to his love.

    Best wishes!
    Sarah

  • Colleen August 21, 2013

Gratitude was already a part of my coaching process, but not as important a part as it is today, and not so much a *practice*. I now actively practice gratitude and it has changed my life!

I love all your work, and my Sanctuary is fast becoming a Lori Portka exhibition space

I have so much to be grateful for! I woke up this morning, and it is one of those rare days where I am not sick, and right off the bat I am blessed with emails from dear friends around the world who shower me with their loving-kindness. Even on days that aren’t so great I find that I am grateful for the beauty of nature, my loving and affectionate cats, my ability to breathe through whatever I may be going through and find a glimmer of peace. Life is such a gift, all I can do is smile and express my gratitude for what I have been given with every breath I take. Thank you so much Lori for expressing your own gratitude in such a beautiful way. I am always inspired by your Facebook posts, so thank you for putting such joy out there into the universe.

  • swan August 21, 2013

Right now I am grateful for this moment of life, this very peaceful moment and this very place. Timeless awareness, so sweet.
On a more practical level I am tremendously grateful for my friend Betty and for her generous heart. We have just been for lunch to celebrate her birthday today and we went to buy a new light weight hose for her garden (as she can no longer lift the one she has). So I am grateful for birthdays and technical people who come up with stuff that make life easier and for gardens and the blessing of flowers and the beauty of the Scottish hills. And I am so very grateful for my computer and for all of you to share gratitude with.
I am also grateful for the art of Lori which keeps inspiring me. THANK YOU

I’m grateful for YOU – your pictures make me happy & I love hearing about your gratitude projects and how you and other like-minded people are walking-their-talk and reaching out to others in gratitude, compassion and love. I am trying to make gratitude a more integral part of my life & reaching out to the people around me, instead of just thinking about it or understanding it on an intellectual basis. It reminds me a quote I read this morning by Maya Angelou that you might like, “If you must look back, do so forgivingly. If you must look forward, do so prayerfully. However, the wisest thing you can do is be Present in the Present….Gratefully.” xoxoxo

  • Treesa August 21, 2013

I am grateful for you, Lori. Last year you inspired me with your 100 Thank You’s project. Ever since I have wanted to do something similar using my photography to create each gratitude card. It has not blossomed beyond a thought, unfortunately, as I have been battling a life-threatening illness which has zapped my energy (and finances). The drive to send out these gratitude cards is greater than ever. If I win a set of your cards I will use them for this purpose. While I know it is not the same as creating something unique for each person on my gratitude list, it is still beauty and gratitude shared. It is important for me to accomplish this now. Thank you, Lori, for being a light of inpsiration and for sharing your heartwork with us all.

  • Sarah August 21, 2013

Today I have many things to be thankful for. We went to visit my husband’s godmother (who is elderly and lives alone). She had injured her shoulder earlier in the year, but is now doing much better. She appreciated our visit so much (we had to drive almost 4 hours), and I am grateful for the time with her and that her shoulder has recovered. When we were almost home our “check engine” light came on. I am grateful we made it home. It was late so I am glad we had leftovers to warm up.

The new blog design looks great. I love the banner up top showing your work behind you. The art is always so vibrant and cheerful.

I’m so deeply grateful for a lifelong dream coming true at the age of 39. I met my older brother and sister.. and we all shared that dream since we where young but now it was the time and we got the chance and we took it. It was a day I will remember for the rest of my life and I’m so deeply grateful for it.. and that they are fantastic people with fantastic family.. Life is truly an adventure.

  • Jennifer Keenan August 24, 2013

I am grateful for a summer full of “present” moments. Finding shells with my family on an island home to horses, seeing purple and yellow flowers during a mountain side memorial service for my best friend-her favorite, singing Bob Marley tunes with her mother while we were driving there, staring eye to eye with a deer while gathering the courage to go back to work, arguments with my teenagers when they don’t need me and receiving the “I Love You’s” when they do, weekly thursday night dates with my hubby to a local vineyard to pick up our CSA, re-uniting with childhood friends. Love your new site, it will make it easy for my family to pick out my Christmas gifts this year! All the Best!!

I am grateful for the emotions I feel – for better or for worse, they make me, me!

Over the past 18 months I’ve been learning a great deal about myself, which is how I came across your blog. I’ve learnt more about who I am and why I am the way I am. The next steps are learning to accept myself for who I am.

It’s been a tough journey but one I’m glad I’ve experienced. It’s definitely made me realise I have a lot to be grateful for at my fingertips – the unwavering love of family and a supportive group of friends.

I am grateful for having a profession where I get to have moments of impact every day. I am grateful for a husband and daughter who challenge me daily to live my best life. I am grateful for the love of my mother who I lost almost a year and a half ago. I still feel and hear her voice daily as I move through life’s challenge. I miss her dearly but I’m grateful that I made the most of the moments that we had when she was alive. I am grateful for 2nd chances, love, life, authenticity, integrity and hope. And, on this 50 year anniversary of the March on Washington, I am grateful to live in a world which is a bit more palatable because of the sacrifices of people whom I will never meet. Humbled.
